About Mike Matei

If you are frequent purveyor of our blog, you may know that we're HUGE fans of Cinemassacre - home of the brilliant web series, The Angry Video Game Nerd. On May 11th, 2012, Matei uploaded "Minecraft with Gadget," a video in which he and an animated version of Inspector Gadget, voiced by Matei, reviewed the IOS port of Minecraft In the video, Inspector Gadget has trouble pronouncing the name of the game, eventually calling it "Minecrapap He repeated the name several times during the video, eventually repeating "I love to build brown bricks with mine crap." This spawned the Brown Bricks meme.

I've been a pretty avid AVGN fan since around 2006 when James first started posting his videos, and Mike has been an appalling fill-in for James. The first time it happened in a nerd episode, James needed someone to play Jason Voorhees. I've decided to use Patreon to film a new series of videos going into great detail on these items.

This is because Mike only appears behind the scenes between the Nerd's fictitious world and James Rolfe's real world. I don't like when they baby us. I grew up with arcade games and the NES which threw players immediately into the action. Matei is a major contributor in helping with the video editing for Cinemassacre's Monster Madness.

It seems like gamers don't know much about Mike, aside from your videos, though, so tell us a little bit about yourself. I played A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS and beat it. It's one of the best games Nintendo has made in the last decade and one of the best Zelda games ever made.

The story centers around the alleged burial of over 1 million copies of the proclaimed "worst video game of all time", E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600, as The Nerd embarks on a quest to prove that there is nothing buried there after being pressured by fans to review the video game, while being pursued by federal authorities who believe he is investigating Area 51 and the crash of an unidentified flying object.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to Nintendo Enthusiast, Mike. The Angry Video Game Nerd show has a cult following, and made James Rolfe one of the most popular internet celebrities before the advent of YouTube. Mike mega man 2 was my first favourite game. The video covers a number of games including Streets of Rage 2 and X-Men.

WatchMojo also called the Nerd as a "trendsetter" for other gamers and amateur reviewers online, influencing the likes of those such as the Nostalgia Critic, Angry Joe and others. Aside from that, I spend time with my girlfriend, who is also an avid Nintendo fan, and we enjoy antiquing and playing video games together in our spare time.

Rolfe's channel, JamesNintendoNerd, is currently the 171st most popular YouTube channel with over 928,000 subscribers and 421.9 million views, according to VidStatsX. In 2007, the series became a program on ScrewAttack and GameTrailers , where it was renamed The Angry Video Game Nerd to avoid trademark issues with Nintendo , and to allow Rolfe to review games from non-Nintendo consoles.

Matei most notably works on Rolfe's famous Internet series The Angry Video Game Nerd , for which he co-writes, plays a variety of characters ( Jason Voorhees , The Cowardly Lion , The Joker , Leatherface , Bugs Bunny , a Klingon , Michael Myers , etc.), and illustrated the title cards for episodes 5-100 as well as 139.
